We started Stir in 2011 for one simple reason: we are passionate about coffee. We wanted to introduce Dallas coffee drinkers to espresso made as it should be – with beans that aren’t over-roasted, on a machine that is temperature-controlled, by a barista that has been trained in the art of making coffee. We believe it is an art: it’s a skill acquired like any other, with thousands of hours of practice and countless shots pulled.
I spent years living in Italy, and spent part of my time there as a barista. Until recently, I couldn’t find espresso in the States that matched the flavor and intensity of the Italian espresso I loved; when I did find it, it was in New York or DC or San Francisco, but rarely in Texas. But a chance encounter with an incredible roaster in Austin led to our deciding to take the plunge and open our own espresso bar, and here we are.
Stir serves only espresso drinks, press coffee, cold-brewed toddy coffee, and single-cup brewed coffee. Our coffee is sourced from our favorite artisan roasters in Austin and Durham, and our baristas are all expertly trained in shot timing, extraction, water science, and milk texturing. We’re serious about coffee, and we’re here to stir up your feelings about it until you are just as passionate as we are.
